Project Planning and Execution

Project Planning and Execution Concepts
Term Description
Gantt Chart A bar chart that illustrates a project schedule, showing the dependency relationships between activities and their current status.
Critical Path The sequence of activities that represents the longest path through a project, which determines the shortest possible duration.
Risk Management The process of identifying, analyzing, and responding to project risk. It includes maximizing the results of positive events and minimizing the consequences of adverse events.
Stakeholder Management The systematic identification, analysis, planning, and implementation of actions designed to engage with stakeholders.
Resource Allocation The process of assigning and managing assets in a manner that supports an organization's strategic goals.
Change Control A formal process used to ensure that changes to a product or system are introduced in a controlled and coordinated manner.
Earned Value Management (EVM) A project management technique for measuring project performance and progress in an objective manner.
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) A deliverable-oriented hierarchical decomposition of the work to be executed by the project team.
Project Schedule A document that presents project activities with intended start and finish dates, often depicting activities as a bar chart.
Resource Leveling A technique in which start and finish dates are adjusted based on resource constraints with the goal of balancing demand for resources with the available supply.
Risk Register A document in which the results of risk analysis and risk response planning are recorded.
Precedence Diagramming Method (PDM) A technique used for constructing a schedule model in which activities are represented by nodes and are graphically linked by one or more logical relationships to show the sequence in which the activities are to be performed.
Monte Carlo Analysis A technique that computes or iterates the project cost or schedule many times using input values selected at random from probability distributions of possible costs or durations, to calculate a distribution of possible outcomes.
Assumption Log A project document used to record all assumptions and constraints throughout the project life cycle.
Project Management Information System (PMIS) An information system consisting of the tools and techniques used to gather, integrate, and disseminate the outputs of project management processes.
Scope Statement The description of the project scope, major deliverables, assumptions, and constraints.
Project Calendar A calendar that identifies working days and shifts that are available for scheduled activities.
Quality Management Plan A component of the project management plan that describes how an organization's quality policies will be implemented.
Communications Management Plan A component of the project management plan that describes how, when, and by whom information about the project will be administered and disseminated.
