Term Description
PMO A management structure that standardizes the project-related governance processes and facilitates the sharing of resources, methodologies, tools, and techniques.
Portfolio Management The centralized management of one or more portfolios to achieve strategic objectives.
Program Management The application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to a program to meet the program requirements and to obtain benefits and control not available by managing projects individually.
Governance The framework, functions, and processes that guide project management activities in order to create a unique product, service, or result to meet organizational strategic and operational goals.
Maturity Model A framework that describes the characteristics of effective processes at different stages of development. It shows the extent to which specific processes are defined, managed, measured, controlled, and effective.
Resource Management The efficient and effective deployment of an organization's resources when they are needed.
Center of Excellence (CoE) A team, a shared facility or an entity that provides leadership, best practices, research, support and/or training for a focus area.
PMO Charter A document that formally authorizes the existence of the PMO and provides the PMO manager with the authority to apply organizational resources to PMO activities.
Enterprise PMO (EPMO) A strategically oriented PMO that operates at the enterprise level, aligning project and program work to corporate strategy.
Project Support Office A type of PMO that provides a supportive role to project managers through training, software, templates, and best practices.
